Money frog

money frog

Chan Chu in Chinese means toad or money frog. If you’re looking to attract prosperity, abundance and wealth, put a frog in your house with a coin in its mouth. Although it is important to choose the right place to put it in the house so that it works perfectly.

The Lucky Frog Legend

The legend says that once in China a little boy was playing by the pond throwing stones. At one point he saw a frog and threw a stone at it without thinking. The stone hit the frog’s hind leg and when it got scared it immediately jumped into the water and did not appear again.

On the way home, the boy began to think about what he had done and felt remorse for what had happened.

The next day, he went to the pond again. This time he took some insects he had caught before. He put them in a boot, in which the amphibian was injured and waited. But the frog did not appear. The guilt continued to grow on him, so he returned the next day, and the next…

The years went by and the child kept bringing the insects to the pond every day. Until one day, when the boy went to the water, he finally saw his frog again. She stood still and watched him carefully, and he discovered that she did not have one of his hind legs. He approached her carefully and began to apologize, but the frog only croaked.

The boy did not change his habit, and continued to visit the pond every day to talk to his three-legged frog.

Time continued to pass. One day, the boy who had become a man, father of two children, discovered that one of them had become seriously ill. So he decided to sell everything he had to save his sick son, but he couldn’t raise enough money to buy the medication.

One day, the family was saying goodbye to their son at the foot of the bed, as he was suffering from a very high fever. At that very moment, the three-legged frog appeared with a gold coin in its mouth.

Crying, very grateful to his friend, the man ran to the village to buy the necessary medicines to cure his little boy.

Thanks to this story, the money frog, also known as the toad or three-legged frog, has become a mythical animal, passed down from generation to generation, because of its ability to attract wealth, happiness and luck.

Where to place the money frog?

According to the rules of Feng Shui, the abundance frog should be placed in the so-called prosperity corner, which is the economic energy centre of the house. In classical Feng Shui this corner is located in the southeast of the house, whereas in Western Feng Shui it is located in the upper left side of the space, seen from the floor.

The Chinese money frog can also be placed in the corner of the room opposite and diagonally to the entrance door. In this place, the frog must be turned inwards so that the energy of the money enters and does not leave.

At work, you can place it on your desk, near the place where financial documents are kept. Also near or in front of the cash register, always facing into the room. This brings in money from the outside world.

Once you’ve placed your wealth-attracting frog, remember to reactivate it by placing it on a red sheet of paper or tying a red ribbon around it to attract happiness and make the prosperity much longer lasting. These last tips would not apply to frog figures that already have red elements.

Remember this!

When you have your figure at home, always bear in mind the following tips to enhance its effectiveness:

  • Keep your figure and surroundings clean.
  • Never put it on the floor.
  • Choose a slightly raised floor surface, such as a shelf.
  • Do not place the frog too high, as this prevents it from accessing the pockets it must fill with money.

Avoid these places

The frog or Chinese money toad should never be in the middle of a room, under a window, in a corridor or in a crowded area. Also, it should not be placed in the bedroom, kitchen or bathroom, as it can bring bad luck when placed in these places.

According to the rules of Feng Shui, the frog of wealth should not be placed in front of the door, because it will escape and not return. Also, if it is placed too high, it could jump. It is also not advisable to place it in front of the mirror. Frogs should always go inside the room.

How many money frogs can I have?

To enhance the powers of this amulet of wealth, I advise you to have several three-legged toads at home or at the office. Whenever possible, it is better to have a multiple of 3, i.e. 3, 6 or 9. The number three represents the harmony of earth, sky and man. The number 6 refers to the happiness of heaven and, the number 9 represents the amount of power and abundance, as well as eternity.

Remember to always place all the frogs in different places in the house or in your workplace, but always respecting the rules mentioned above.
